OZARK COUNTY ATTRACTIONS
Bull Shoals Lake - Legendary for its bass fishing, this
sprawling impoundment of deep, clear water has remained incredibly
clean and free from shoreline development. The lake is super also
for water-skiing, scuba diving, swimming and boating.
Lake Norfolk - Similar to Bull Shoals although a bit
smaller, this is another great spot to fish and boat.
Mark Twain National Forest - 38,807 acres in Ozark
County. Open to the public for fishing, hunting, canoeing,
backpacking, horseback riding and just plain enjoyment. This
beautiful mountainous woodland boasts a remarkable wildlife
population, including white tailed deer, wild turkey, quail,
rabbits, squirrels, bobcats and more. Home of the Devil's Backbone
Wilderness Area.
North Fork River and Bryant Creek
- Famous float streams and trophy trout waters. Canoe rentals
and float trip outfitters available. Many free access points along
the streams.
Caney Mountain Refuge - Missouri's wild
turkey capital. The birds are live trapped here with cannon nets and
used to stock other parts of Missouri as well as being traded to
other states. This 6,715 acres of rugged beauty is the site of an
annual primitive weapon (black powder) hunt for deer.
Water Mills Trail - Several historic mills are
open to the public and show the way it was when our ancestors had
their grain ground into meal for home use. This is an ideal tour for
the history buff or the photographer.
Hootin an Hollarin
- The autumn festival on the square in Gainesville that is held
the third weekend in September every year. Arts and crafts, a
parade, husband calling and cow calling contests, square dancing,
old fashioned dress and some good old pickin' and grinin'.
The Glade Top Trail - a naturalist's delight,
the Trail takes you through pristine Ozark Glades and unspoiled
forest, past breathtaking views. The jewel of the Mark Twain
National Forest, the Trail is close to Theodosia, takes about two
hours to drive and is especially beautiful during spring and autumn.
The trail is a treat for the whole family anytime.
